Makeover day

A few weeks ago I have posted my preteen bedroom design project. Today we finally put the room together. See how it turned out. First a reminder of my proposal..

And this is how the room looks like now..

The existing bunk bed is from Ikea and so is the writing desk, chest of drawers and wardrobe. All in very good condition and solid, so we decided to keep it for the time being. Starting with the rug, I have pulled the lime green out and introduced the striped wallpaper on one of the walls. I matched it with the Harlequin fabric on the customised cushion. It has a very subtle metallic detail.

We painted the frame of the inexpensive bespoke magnetic board orange to brighten up the white wall. To make the magnetic board, get yourself a galvanised steel sheet from a DIY store. This board is 100 x 50cm in size, but they come in various sizes e.g. 25 x 50cm, 50 x 50cm or 25x 75cm. Then you just need to get the right size frame. For my projects I use goframeit, they can make bespoke wooden frames, which are well priced. Make sure that you order just the frame without the glass panel. They are quick with delivery, so once you receive it, simply paint the frame in the colour of your choice. I always order a white frame, as it can be easily painted over. I use spray paint where possible because is so much easier to use and dries faster as well.

The  Villa Nova geometric lime green curtain has a blackout lining. There is one more panel being made by my curtain maker. The wardrobe knobs are from Anthropologie, my favorite destination for accessories, bedding and rugs.

I was going to have the lamp base repainted in the same turquoise colour as the desk lamp, but in the end I think it looks great as it is.

Originally white, we have also sprayed the ceiling pendant in yellow and orange. The chair I got from a flea market and again I had it sprayed in yellow and used Osborne & Little metallic faux leather fabric for the seat.

The room is almost there, just a few more accessories… bespoke mirror, candles, a vase, a pouff and it’s done.
