Inspired by the beautiful surroundings on my holidays, I’ve decided to put together a nautical patio moodboard which I want to put into action and create a nice seating area on¬†our patio next week. If the weather is good. Must be! My inspiration came from this outdoor seating area in the Mediterranean.
Stripes are really great for outdoor garden furniture cushions, pads and slipcovers. They add a touch of class and sophistication. They transport you to the coastline. And they complement other patterns as well – being ikat, floral or paisley. ¬†For my design I’ve chosen a green stripe for my loungers but that’s just a personal preference. I combined it with blue chevron cushions and monochrome geometric outdoor rug.
I’ve seen outdoor rug popping up everywhere this summer, even in supermarkets, TK Maxx and Ikea. They are great for long summer days and outdoor entertaining. I spoke to one of the manufacturers while exhibiting at Grand Design London few months ago. I was concerned about mounding, tearing , discolouration of the material or any other damage that can happen when you leave anything like that¬†outside over a long time. I learnt my lesson. One year I left our rattan furniture (which we bought in Spain! and had it delivered all the way to the U.K.) outside and in the end I had to throw it away. It was rotten and mouldy to the bone. ¬†But with the outdoor rugs I was told that they are weather and waterproof. So I will give it a go.
Have you got a nautical patio decor in your back garden? Where did you get your nautical idea inspiration from?
Stay turned for my patio makeover!
P.S. I’ve been working on my outdoor cushion collection using fade, stain and water resistant fabrics. More news is coming next week. If you are on Facebook or Twitter, you can follow me here (Facebook) and here (Twitter).
