What I’m reading: Decorate fearlessly

When I found out that this book, Decorate fearlessly written by Susanna Salk, is finally available in the U.K. I had to order it from Amazon straight away. Today it arrived. All my favourite designers are featured in this book.

Jonathan Adler, Mary McDonald, Tobi Fairley, Amanda Nisbet and many more. I’m in heaven. I absolutely love it.

So much inspiration and colour! Let me show you my favourite room designs..

designed by Amanda Nisbet

The book is divided into 6 chapters – living rooms, entryways, dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. The images above and below are my top 2 dining room designs. Notice on the image below how the Designer’s Guild wallpaper blends in to the room but also makes a stunning feature wall as well.

My top living room design is by Tobi Fairley.

I follow her on Bloglovin. She is so inspirational. Her trademark is using bold, geometric and colourful fabrics and furnishing, mixing traditional with modern and mid-century furniture.

The bedroom section in the book is mostly dedicated to adult spaces but I like these two pictures of kiddie’s rooms.

designed by Melissa Warner Rothblum and Lesli DeVito

Here is a perfect example of layering patterns – geometric monochrome wallpaper, Designer’s Guild fabric, zebra rug, velvets, silks and fluffy cushions. Bold but keeping to the same colour palette, this design feels very personal and welcoming.

TOP DESIGNER TIPS from the book:

1. Use geometric pattern to lift your room decor

2. Use bold chandeliers (purely for visual effect) – search flea markets and ebay for unique finds

3. don’t be afraid of a bold pattern, be confident in your design

4. experiment with layering patterns – fabrics, wallpaper, flooring, soft furnishings

5. use art to make your space unique to you
