Last month I wrote about my playroom/family office project. You can read my blog here about what design we decided to go for. Before, the room was used only occasionally. It was one of those no identity spare rooms with no real function
apart from storing toys and other “must keep for later just in case” things! It had a desk there so it should have been used as a home office. The kids didn’t want to spend time or play in the room because there was no TV and it was so cluttered with leftover furniture that the space didn’t allow for any play anyway.
As a recap, here is my final proposal.
And here is how it looks now..
I used this stripy wallpaper from Prestigious textiles with metallic stripes and installed it horizontally rather than vertically. I wanted to create a zone for the “man of the house” with the solid walnut masculine desk and bankers green desk lamp, separate from the children’s zone.
The kiddie’s desk have enough room for two laptops or drawing and painting activities.
I chose gold as opposed to silver for the desk accessories.
The rug is from Urban Outfitters and the faux Roman blind is made from Designer’s Guild remnant fabric. The ceiling light with 5 glass baubles is from Dunelm.
The built-in wardrobes which now store all toys, paiting and craft boxes were painted in Farrow & Ball Old White. I also changed the door handles to these nickel tall ones rather than knobs.
The TV is there as requested. But the only thing which is missing is the hanging chair! Next time you stop by, check my website portfolio. It’s being installed this week!
Do you have a room that has no function in your home? Let me know I want to hear your comments.
